PIGMENT PRINT

What is a pigment print?

Mathis Teis' prints are made using the pigment inkjet printing process. This is a high-end process used for fine art photographic prints. It is based on the production of a monochrome or colour image from a digital file using a large format printer called a "plotter". The image is produced by projecting micro-droplets of ink onto the paper, which allows for very accurate prints.

Pigment inkjet printing uses an ink composed of organic material encapsulated in microscopic resin bubbles. This technique ensures that prints are highly resistant to the effects of time and offers a beautiful intensity of colour and tone. Depending on storage conditions, prints can retain their quality for over a century.

This process makes it possible to obtain true art prints. It is the preferred printing technique for professionals for prints intended for collections or exhibitions.

Mathis Teis naturally turned to this printing technique, which offers a rendering close to the aesthetics of graphic works. The use of pigment inks associated with 100% cotton paper gives the works a pictorial atmosphere which sublimates his works.

The paper

Paper is a crucial element in the printing process of an art photograph. For this reason, Mathis Teis took special care in choosing the paper. After extensive testing, he chose Hahnemühle's Photo Rag® Bright White. It is a 100% cotton paper of 310g/m² with a bright white colour and an inkjet coating specially designed for Fine Art applications. This paper provides bright colours and intense blacks. It lends itself perfectly to Mathis Teis's work, which requires a high level of contrast. It is acid-free and lignite-free and meets the highest conservation requirements.
