RISOGRAPHY PRINT

What is risography?

Risography is a printing process invented in 1946 by Noboru Hayama. Handmade and mechanical, it is halfway between silkscreen and offset printing. The image is produced in successive layers using different stencils soaked in ink. This technique creates imperfections and variations between each print run, which is what makes this process so unique and charming. Each print is therefore unique, which makes it even more valuable.

Risography is a cold printing system, so it consumes very little energy. The inks are made from soya oil and are of natural origin. This makes it a more environmentally friendly process than conventional printing.

Risography prints are the result of a joint effort between the artist and the craftsman. The rendering of the works is very different from classic prints and opens up a new interpretation of the works.

By purchasing a risograph print you are supporting the craft and a more environmentally friendly process.

Mathis Teis' risography prints are made in collaboration with the studio Nebel Press located in Annecy.
